SNOWBALL
Costs: $750Snowball has entropion on the lower lids of both eyes requiring corrective surgery.
This condition is when the the eyelids roll inward, causing the lashes to rub on the eye which leads to irritation and eventually corneal ulcers if not treated.

Costs: $1,800Polar a torn cruciate ligament that required surgery and she will be starting physical rehabilitation.
These costs reflect Polar’s final surgery. She already had a CBLO on the other leg.

Costs: $1,000Rocky Road requires an abdominal ultrasound to investigate a chronic issue with bloody urine and bladder stones.
Rocky was returned by his adopter because they did not want to pay for the care he needed.

WHAT IS A STARKE DOG?
STARKE Dogs are our special cases. STARKE stands for “Special Treatment And Recovery K9 Emergencies”. While every dog that comes into our care is special, each STARKE Dog has an incredible story, having overcome illness, injury, or mental and emotional challenges.
Formerly known as our Wonderdogs, we renamed this program to honour Karen Starke, a long-time member of the MUR family who recently passed away. Karen’s dedication to the sick and most difficult Underdogs was unwavering. This program living in her memory is the perfect tribute to such a wonderful woman. Karen may not be here physically to care for these dogs anymore, but her memory and her spirit will live on forever.
Our design lead, Jason, chose the dog silhouette with a floppy ear because “maybe the one floppy ear made the dog a little bit of a misfit and ‘ruff’ around the edges. Seemed fitting for what Karen did for so many.”
