Isaac + Wrecks: Medical Updates

MUR Team Rescue Stories, STARKE Dogs

It’s #ThankYouThursday! As part of our thanks, we’re sharing a video update on Isaac, with a bonus update on Wrecks who came in last week after being hit by a car. Thank you to Pembina Veterinary Hospital for allowing us to spend some time with the boys this afternoon, and the 24/7 care they have been receiving on day practice and on Winnipeg Animal Emergency Hospital hours.

Isaac had his wound debrided yesterday. The exposed bone from his skull was dead and was removed, as well as fragments of bone from his sinus and under the skin around the wound. He will need daily bandage changes at home. In a couple of weeks, he will have an advanced flap surgery using the skin from the back of the head to fully close the wound.

Wrecks has a spica splint covering his chest/shoulder and elbow to prevent extra weight-bearing (which could cause his fracture to worsen). He will require 1-2 months of rest, weekly splint changes and repeat X-rays in a few weeks to check on his progress.

We are incredibly grateful for all of the support we received for Isaac (he definitely stole the show from other Underdogs in care!). From the generous donations and good thoughts to the kind words of encouragement. We appreciate our MUR community and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 🐾

Thank you to Global Pet Foods Grant Ave for donating some yummy Benny Bully’s and toys to Isaac and Wrecks!
