How To Adopt
We have a formal and refined adoption process, designed to help us match dogs with appropriate homes and ensure they are finding permanent, caring families. If you haven’t already, please view our adoptable dogs to find your match. Then, follow the four easy steps below!
COMPLETE AN APPLICATION
At Underdogs, our goal is to find you the perfect furry match for your home and lifestyle. We’ll need you to complete our adoption application below. Because our Underdogs are cared for in a foster’s home, we make sure to collect a bit of information on our adopters ahead of time. This will just take a few minutes to fill out and submit. Please fill out the application truthfully and completely. This process is designed to appropriately match you or your family with an Underdog that will suit your lifestyle.
If your application is reviewed and seems to be a match, our Adoptions Team will send a “pre-approval” email connecting you with the foster home, and an Adoption Officer (please note that your pre-approval does not mean you have been approved for adoption).
MEET AND GREET
After you’ve received your pre-approval, contact the foster home to set up a time to meet the pet you’ve applied for. Please don’t be alarmed or worried if this takes a few days- we are a volunteer run organization, so these things can take time. Once you’ve met and if you decide the dog is a good fit for you, we can proceed to the next step: a home visit! (Don’t worry- we’re not looking for show home perfection!)
After your meet and greet, you can contact your Adoption Officer to complete a home visit if you’ve decided to proceed with the adoption. The home visit is a simple check to make sure that the dog is going to a good space. We will check for things like fenced yard, where the dog will be sleeping, etc. At this time, our adoption contract must be signed, and the adoption fees paid in full by either cash, cheque, or money order.
After approval from the home visit, you will receive an “approved” email and placed in touch with the foster home to arrange a time for your new family member to go home! Remember- a new pet will take time to settle in so please don’t be alarmed if they are nervous, have accidents or act differently than they did in the foster home. Please contact us with any concerns or issues you are having and we will do our best to help you work through them.
