Manitoba Underdogs Rescue hopes to provide 100 dogs with spay/neuterprocedures via two community clinics hosted in 2018

WINNIPEG, MB.– January 19, 2018 – Today, Manitoba Underdogs Rescue Inc. announced it has received a $20,000 grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada, one of the nation’s leading funders of animal welfare, to help fuel its spay and neuter efforts in Chemawawin Cree Nation in 2018.

With the help of this donation, Manitoba Underdogs Rescue will offer two mobile spay/neuter clinics within this First Nation community through their Fix It! Manitoba spay/neuter initiative. The goal is to fix 100 dogs while also providing wellness services such as vaccines, medications and veterinary check-ups. “We’re pleased to support Manitoba Underdogs Rescue with this grant that will help to prevent further pet overpopulation in the province,” said PetSmart Charities of Canada’s regional relationship manager, Dani Mailing.

Spay and neuter surgeries performed at these clinics will prevent a minimum of 2,100 puppies from being born in the next 18 months, thereby dramatically lowering the population of homeless pets in Manitoba.

Manitoba Underdogs Rescue has already scheduled their first clinic in Chemawawin Cree Nation for next month on February 24th & 25th. They hope to host their second clinic in the community later this year in November. The generous grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada will cover the majority of the costs associated with the two planned spay/neuter clinics in Chemawawin.

“This grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada is a game-changer for our organization,” said Manitoba Underdogs Executive Director, Jessica Hansen. “Our spay and neuter clinics are extremely important to animal welfare and health in Manitoba and we can’t run them without support from our generous donors. We can’t wait to get into the community and start helping these animals who so desperately need care.”
